The long holiday weekend is over and it's back to work tomorrow. I guess that has its positives: I won't be stuffing my face with pie every hour and I'll actually get something done.
As far as freelancing goes, I'm lacking ideas as to what to write for a specific site. I'm drawing a blank. That's the hard part about being a freelance writer-- you always have to have ideas or else you won't be getting paid.
Sometimes I hate thinking.
I'd rather eat pie.

these boots are made for freelancing (and walking!)
Meet my new babies. They're prettyyyyyyy...casual, but not too casual, with heels totally comfortable to walk in. They're well worth it. Even though I haven't even gotten paid for my first freelancing gig yet.The holidays are here, so I hope you all have a happy holidays. Times are still shitty, but what can you do now, right?
When life gives you lemons, you make margaritas and enjoy. (I think lemonade is a waste of a potentially good alcoholic drink, to be completely honest. I mean, if you're gonna have something a little sour, it might as well have a real kick to it.)

Crap, I'm turning into Carrie Bradshaw, minus the Manolos and rent controlled apartment, and all the sex, boo.
I have great news: An old editor recently contacted me about freelancing opportunities and so of course I said HELL FREAKIN YES! (Not with those exact words but I pretty much conveyed to her how I'd loooooove to do it.)
I've been saying I should get into freelance work since before graduation, but I never took the initiative to actually do it (I'm a procrastinating bastard like that). So I'm really really grateful for this opportunity.
I'm expecting my first paycheck soon. It's not like winning the lottery, but a little extra cash is always great. Although 3/4 of that paycheck is already spent on beautiful boots that I saw yesterday while working on more freelance writing. They're so pretty and they're coming tomorrow! Yay!
It's been a while since I had to deal with deadlines outside the office, so I need to work on my time management and discipline, like not shopping for shoes when you're supposed to be doing work.

What a week.
Do I need to mention it? Congratulations, President Barack Obama. Thank you, America. Thank you thank you thank you. Let's hope the good news keep coming.
Speaking of news, I'm disappointed that the Philippines is one of the few countries who favored McCain over Obama. I'm disappointed, but I realize that my country has a long history of colonialization and therefore has an inferiority complex when it comes to race. We look down on our own people, who naturally have darker skin, and idealize foreigners with lighter skin. We probably have a long way to go before we can shake off this way of thinking. We also have a long (and consistent) history of corrupt politicans bleeding our country dry, and it's hard to think positively after years of government letting us down. But this election's showed that we and the world can change.
Also, this election has inspired and touched people to tears (Me? Almost. Just almost. A part of me still can't believe it). If you haven't run out of emotions yet, this Washington Post article is worth reading from start to finish.
I don't need to mention the craptastic economy and the publishing industry either, but if I keep it all in I might explode. When will the layoffs and magazine closings end? Soon, please? I'm not ready to give up on this career yet. What doesn't kill you makes you stronger, right?
Good thing I have that tub of ice cream I bought in case the election didn't turn out how I wanted it to. It's low-calorie, because it's not good to be unhealthy and uninsured at the same time.

The good news: Happy November!
The potentially (hopefully) good news: 2 days till election day! TWO days! We can vote the Republicans out of the White House! Let's do it! (Please oh please, America, I don't want to be depressed on November 5th.)
The not so good news: The economy still sucks. Not that anyone needed to be reminded of that. Oy. I read Gawker.com and Mediabistro.com everyday and for the past couple of weeks without fail, there has been a headline about massive layoffs or publications folding every single day. EVERY SINGLE DAY. And of course, there's this: the top 6 industries at high risk for job cuts. Guess what's included in that list? Yup, publishing. Ugh.
Which is why I plan to buy bottles of wine and delicious and fattening pies for Thanksgiving dinner.
